Lukang Elementary School has a rich history dating back to 1896. During Japanese rule, modern education was introduced in Taiwan, and Lukang’s first school, the Lukang National Language Training Institute, was established to teach Japanese and promote governance. 

In 1898, it was reorganized into Lukang Public School, officially marking the start of structured education in the town. Over time, the school expanded, moved to different locations, and introduced vocational subjects. In 1920, it became Lukang First Public School, and later, a separate girls’ school was founded. 

After World War II, Taiwan was returned to Chinese rule, and the school transitioned to teaching in Mandarin. It was renamed Lukang First Elementary School and became part of Taiwan’s six-year education system. The school grew significantly, adding new buildings and modern facilities. 

Today, Lukang Elementary School is known for its commitment to both academic learning and cultural heritage. It continues to evolve, incorporating technology and extracurricular programs while preserving traditional arts.
